5 Social Bookmarking Sites for Small Businesses – Share & Grow! [Part 2]

mb banner words v4 5 Social Bookmarking Sites for Small Businesses – Share & Grow! [Part 2]
In our previous post, we went over 5 popular social media websites that small businesses can use in order to promote growth and facilitate sales. In this post we will target another niche of social media – social bookmarking websites and go over some of the popular ones that small businesses can use in their respective industries.

Social Bookmarking is an extremely popular concept within the internet community. It involves searching, sharing and managing bookmarks of websites. Below we will discuss a few of the most popular and useful social bookmarking websites that small businesses should seriously consider and implement within their infrastructure.

1.
StumbleUpon – StumbleUpon the Content You Want to See
su img 5 Social Bookmarking Sites for Small Businesses – Share & Grow! [Part 2] StumbleUpon allows users to rate websites, online photos and videos. It creates virtual communities of users with similar interests and can be easily be added to your browser’s toolbar.
StumbleUpon displays web pages based on the user’s ratings. Users rate web pages with a thumbs up or thumbs down. This rating updates the website’s profile and generates peer social networks, which in turn distributes the site’s content globally. Thus enabling users to “stumble upon” websites that are explicitly recommended by their peers and friends hence the name StumbleUpon.
2. Digg – Digg Your Way to Visibility and Growth
digg img 5 Social Bookmarking Sites for Small Businesses – Share & Grow! [Part 2] Digg is a social news website and a great way for internet users to keep up to date on the latest, most popular news and current events. Digg revolves around story submission and a voting system. It allows readers to vote on stories as up or down and uses relevant terms such as “digging” and “burying” to define their selection. The story with the most diggs makes the front page. With an estimated 45,000,000 unique monthly visitors, Digg is regarded as one of the most effective social bookmarking websites around.
3. Delicious – Tag Good Content
delicious img 5 Social Bookmarking Sites for Small Businesses – Share & Grow! [Part 2] Delicious is another worthy and one of the most popular contender among social bookmarking websites. It is just as famous for its features as it is for its unique name. It is used for storing and sharing bookmarks similar to StumbleUpon however there are some differences as to how it indexes and displays bookmarked websites. Delicious allows users to tag bookmarks using index terms. This enables other users to tag their bookmarks under the same index name thereby creating a collection of bookmarks all referring to similar interests.
4. Reddit – Read It? Then Post it!
reddit img 5 Social Bookmarking Sites for Small Businesses – Share & Grow! [Part 2] Another viable option of social bookmarking for small businesses is Reddit, a social news website similar to Digg. Reddit offers internet users an interesting and useful alternative. In addition to submitting links to the actual content, Reddit allows users to make self posts and submit the original content within it. Viewers are allowed to rate the links with the most successful link making its way to the front page.

5.
Yahoo! Buzz – What’s All the Buzz About?
buzz yahoo img 5 Social Bookmarking Sites for Small Businesses – Share & Grow! [Part 2] Created by Yahoo, Yahoo! Buzz is a social bookmarking article website that borrows most of its features from Digg. The site has an estimated unique visitor ratio of 14,000,000. Viewers use a user interface to publish their own stories and then link it to their desired website for the full story. Small businesses in particular use this strategy to drive traffic to their websites.
It is no secret that social bookmarking websites can help companies gain instant access to multiple markets, regions and communities. If used smartly, small businesses can effectively start increasing their overall market share in the relevant industries by using these powerful internet tools.

5 Social Media Sites for Small Businesses – Get Smart! [Part 1]

Wednesday 16 June 2010< | Keith J. Hamilton

thinker03 5 Social Media Sites for Small Businesses – Get Smart! [Part 1]
The hype for Social Media working wonders for small businesses is increasing at a phenomenal rate. However, with all the new social media sites popping up, it can become overwhelmingly difficult to stay in the loop, especially for someone who is just starting out in this field.

Developing and maintaining business structures requires a significant amount of time and effort and at times, it can become very difficult to find the motivation for using social media sites. This post will focus on a few important ones. The most important indicator of business growth is increased sales along with improved cost and time efficiency. The following five social media sites will help you optimize and expand your business practices to achieve better results.

1.
Facebook – The King of Kings:
facebook thumb3 5 Social Media Sites for Small Businesses – Get Smart! [Part 1] With over 400 million users, Facebook is the most popular of social media sites out there and for good reasons too. Consider it a virtual office for small businesses. Set it up as you would set up an actual one. Plan and implement new strategies to increase your sales. Start a campaign to build customer loyalty or send personalized announcements to each of your business shareholders. You will be amazed with the ease of use and the effectiveness of your efforts.

2. Twitter – Innovative and Efficient:
twitter thumb2 5 Social Media Sites for Small Businesses – Get Smart! [Part 1] Moving down the list of the popular social media sites, the second most followed and loved one is Twitter which works on the premise of a 140 character message called a tweet. Think of it as a chat, a brief discussion or an announcement about your small business that you can share with your friends, customers and colleagues throughout the day. It can be anything from a simple Hello to a special “valid for the next hour” discount deal.

3. LinkedIn – Join the Club:
linkedin thumb1 5 Social Media Sites for Small Businesses – Get Smart! [Part 1] When you start a small business, some common strategies would be to join the local and professional associations and know the local people and suppliers. LinkedIn can do just that for you. It is an enormous exhibition hall with all the associations and the contacts you would need for your small business.
4. Xing – Your Own Virtual Desk:
xing thumb1 5 Social Media Sites for Small Businesses – Get Smart! [Part 1] The desk at your office probably has a couple of indexes with numbers of suppliers, a binder containing resumes and business cards or a daily planner. Xing can do all that and much more. You can get your online business card in the rolodex of over eight million businesses worldwide.

5.
Youtube/Flickr – Upload Videos and Pictures:
youf thumb 5 Social Media Sites for Small Businesses – Get Smart! [Part 1] Would you like to put up a screen playing the company profile, an advertisement or a satisfied customer’s review? YouTube will give you all the space to take your videos online. Similarly, Flickr is an online photo album where you can upload all your stills for everyone to see. Facebook also offers the option of uploading videos and creating photo albums, however YouTube and Flickr serve as excellent alternatives.
This is just the tip of the ice berg. There is more to social media for small businesses especially when you start interlinking content from two or more sites; however everyone gets the hang of it gradually. Next week we will bring you more social media sites that can help small businesses thrive!

MycroBurst.com prides itself on having some of the best designers under its fleet. In order to show our appreciation and gratitude for the exceptional work they bring forth to our clients, we are introducing a monthly Designer Interview feature on our blog. Every month we will conduct and post an interview of a top designer for our viewers. This interview is the first in the series of many.

Designer of the Month – Introducing FinalDesign!

Designer Name: FinalDesign

Real Name: Sujith Verghis

Projects Won: 28

Sujith Verghis, more commonly known as Final Design, is one of the many talented designers who compete at MycroBurst.com. With 28 projects wins under his belt, Sujith ranks as the website’s most consistent performer. We sat down with him to ask him about a few questions regarding his thought process, his passion for designing logos and what it takes to be a good designer.

Q1: How did you get into Designing Logos?

I have always had a passion for designing. Many times I have been so fascinated by exceptional designs that it made me wonder just how do they do it? How can they even think like that? Wow! I have wished many times if I could ever design like that. It was just recently that I started concentrating on logo designs and started participating in projects.

Q2: How did you come across MycroBurst.com?

I heard through a friend of mine that there are lots of online sites with designing projects happening on the net and maybe I should give it a shot. So I browsed through Google and came across MycroBurst.com. I participated because of my wife’s persistence.

Q3: Describe your work process? How do you go about creating such beautiful logos?

It was a little tough during the initial stages since I still did not have an idea of how everything worked. Then I started doing a lot of research on the most successful logos and read articles about top designers and what they had to say about designing logos. All of this input gave me a completely different perspective in both observing and delivering ideas.

Logo 11 Meet The Creatives – Honoring the Design Talent!

Q4: You have won 28 design projects now. What is the secret behind your success?

I believe that God has blessed me with a little amount of creativity and talent. It’s because of the belief of a lot of people in my creativity, especially my wife, who always believed in me no matter what, that I am able to really put my heart and soul in creating these designs. I believe one has to be persistent and value feelings, emotions and work with all their heart to achieve success.

Q5: How do you deal with the competing with other fellow Designers? Surely it must be intimidating at times?

Yes it does get intimidating at times. You can’t help it really and have to just deal with it. But I do admire and appreciate designers whom I feel are genuine.

Q6: How do you go about choosing the projects? Is there any particular criteria that you follow?

I do not follow any criteria as such. It just depends on my mood mostly. Sometimes I get ideas instantly when I look at the project brief and there are times when I am totally blank when I read one. So if the former happens, I go about choosing and designing for a project.

Logo 51 Meet The Creatives – Honoring the Design Talent!

Q7: Name three things/attributes that every designer should have or try to incorporate.

Passion, Persistence and Perform.

Q8: Name three things that designers should always be vary of or should not do.

Client’s Brief, Rules and Respect

Q9: What do you love most about being a designer?

I love the sense of independence it gives me more than anything. It’s also a great way to try out all the ideas and thoughts that run through my mind.

Logo 63 Meet The Creatives – Honoring the Design Talent!

Q10: Lastly describe your overall experience about being a designer at MycroBurst.com?

I love it. If the designer’s can maintain a good balance between the MycroBurst.com team, the clients and fellow designers, then MycroBurst.com is the perfect platform for any good designer to participate, perfect their skills and win in the process. Most importantly, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone at MycroBurst.com for giving such a great platform for designers like myself to display their abilities. Thank you.
