Using Similar Logo Designs in Multiple Contests

similar logo design concepts Using Similar Logo Designs in Multiple Contests

While sifting through design drafts, we often come across designers who submit similar designs in various contests. This practice is highly discouraged as it leads to, in most cases, an embarrassing situation for the client as well as the designer. Sometimes the same logo design can be picked as a winner in two or more contests, creating an awkward situation. Every company deserves a unique logo and if another business already has a similar logo it will create trademark infringement issues for the client.

When is it OK to Submit ‘Similar’ Logo Designs?

Remember, we are discouraging you to make similar logo designs however; we are not discouraging you to re-use your logo. You are welcome to submit or reuse a logo design if it meets all of the following criteria:

1.       The logo design should not contain Clipart or Stock images

2.       The logo design should not be a derivative of another designer’s work

3.       It should not be similar to any other existing logo in the same or another running contest

4.       It should not already be a winning design draft in another contest

5.       The same logo design should not be part of a locked contest pending consideration

What Designers Should Know Using Similar Logo Designs in Multiple Contests

What Logo Designers Should Know

Here are few important points that we would like you to take note of while submitting a design draft:

> Do Not Take Shortcuts: First of all, as a designer you should know your capabilities as well as your limitations. You can participate in multiple projects only if you can create unique and original work for ALL the projects. Do not take a short cuts and give “one size fit all” logo designs. That is a call for trouble.

> Avoid Free Graphic Brushes & Symbols: Don’t depend on using graphic design brushes for creating a logo; these can be used as supporting elements only. And avoid using free graphic design symbols at all cost as these will lead to copyright issues.

> Understand Trademark Infringement: Being a logo designer, you should know when a logo design of one company is the replica of another company’s logo as such cases lead to trademark infringement. If caught in this dilemma, your career as a logo designer will be cut short brutally.

MycroBurst takes its logo designers and customers very seriously. We work around the clock to provide our clients as well as our designers with a platform from which they can both benefit. Educating our designers is one of our top priorities. We want to help our designers succeed and educate them so they can satisfy our customers – for us these two things go hand in hand. By following the simple guidelines given above, designers will be able to save themselves from the hassle of trademark issues or worse – jeopardizing their careers.

MH:

The Smart Way of Winning Logo Design Contests on MycroBurst

Thursday 28 July 2011< | Keith J. Hamilton

How to Win a Logo Design Contest The Smart Way of Winning Logo Design Contests on MycroBurst

In my last post, I pointed out how careless mistakes and poor work habits can prevent logo designers from winning logo design contests. With such intense competition nowadays, one small mistake can transform a guaranteed win into an inevitable failure overnight. In today’s post, I will go over a few tips and strategies that designers can use to gain the upper hand and stay ahead.

Gain Client Trust The Smart Way of Winning Logo Design Contests on MycroBurst

Interact with Clients – Gain their Trust

Constructive online interaction between designer and client is priceless in this field since all logo design projects take place over the internet. Even though the contest holder may never get to see you in person, he will always remember you for the prompt service you provide. Interact with them early on in order to develop an “online relationship”. They will prefer working with you.

Keep Up with Logo Design Contest The Smart Way of Winning Logo Design Contests on MycroBurst

Design Contest Updates – Keep Up!

Keeping up with project updates is imperative to your success in logo design competitions. As a designer, it is your job to be fully aware of any updates pertaining to all aspects of the design contest you are participating in. This does not mean you must glue yourself to your laptop. However you do need to check the project status at least every few hours.

Submit Logo Design Draft ASAP The Smart Way of Winning Logo Design Contests on MycroBurst

Submit the Initial Draft – ASAP

Contest holders are always excited about receiving design submissions and analyzing them carefully. Even though every draft goes under the scanner, studies show that clients pay more attention to the first 30-40 drafts they receive than the rest after which they simply refine design requirements and guidelines. Your draft should be among those 40. Submit a good draft as early as possible.

Accomodate Design Contest Client The Smart Way of Winning Logo Design Contests on MycroBurst

Accommodate the Client – Win Two Projects!

Hard to believe right? Trust me it works. The more you accommodate the client, the more inclined he is to pick you as the winner provided your logo designs are good. So how does that win you two projects? Well, afterwards, the client is more likely to contact you directly for future graphic design projects. He can also recommend you to his associates who will gladly look at your portfolio with confidence.

There is no rocket science behind winning online logo design contests – Just hard work, dedication, the ability to follow specific instructions and smart thinking. Stick to the above mentioned principals and you will almost always find yourself on the winning side.
